BlackWaterStars

by Monique Duran

Projection

Lagonda Building Façade

Monique Duran is a Seattle-based multimedia artist born and raised in New Mexico. Originally taken with visual arts such as photography, she quickly became captivated by the motion and abstraction of experimental video and its ability to illustrate time and emotion in new ways.  With increasing interest in immersive experiences, her work has come to include stage & event design, video installation, live visual mixing, sculpture and sound design.  Shaped by a background in dance and cinematography, her aesthetic leans toward the lyrical, often using the human form and nature as an expression of our animality and connection to the rhythms around us.  Common themes are centered on memory, language, longing, and liberation.
She has shown in support of international producers including Powel, Dance Spirit, Leo Leal, Afriqua and Melodie at festivals, events and alternative spaces throughout the US.

Fluctuating Splendor

by Gary Geis Dance Company (GGDC) with The Now Device

Performance

S/W corner of City Hall -performances at 6:20 and 8:20

Fluctuating Splendor is a collaborating piece where movement and light are untilitazed to create a living work of art. Through the use of movement, the dancers act as the canvas in which light is projected onto the dancers as they move through the space and create a unique work of art that is in flux throughout the piece. The dancers are not only the canvas themselves, in all white costumes but also create the artwork through the shapes, lines, images and textures they create as they dance through the lighting as it is projected onto them. Just as light changes its shape as it is reflected so does this living piece of art that is continuously changing. This piece is unique for if one element, dancers or lighting, to be removed the piece becomes something completely different. Movement and lights are in flux creating a one of a kind work of art.

Founded in 1999 by Gary Geis, Mark Cummings and Lori Weaver-Common, the Gary Geis Dance Company, or GGDC,is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) performing company. Currently the company is under the leadership of Artistic Director Tiffany Lobertini, Associate Artistic Director Celina Schroer and Founding Director Mark Cummings. The Gary Geis Dance Company's mission is to advance the appreciation of the art of dance and to bring focus on excellent dance education and training in the Springfield, Ohio, community. With the wide range of experience that our artistic staff have to offer, our goal is to provide the members of this pre-professional dance company with a highly diverse curriculum, with master classes and performance experiences. By design, this preparation and training will act as a "springboard" into a professional career in a major dance or musical theatre company. The Gary Geis School of Dance is the official training facility for GGDC. For more information on the Gary Geis Dance Company please visit our website at garygeisdance.org/about-ggdc.
